Flagger Force is pleased to announce that Shea Zwerver, workforce relations and public affairs manager, has been selected to speak at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Reimagining Futures: Second Chance Employment Forum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The event will bring together businesses, legislators, advocacy groups, and individuals who have reentered the workforce after incarceration to share their experiences and insights.

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to represent Flagger Force at this national event and speak about the business case for fair-chance hiring, also commonly referred to as second chance employment,” said Shea Zwerver, workforce relations and public affairs manager. “At Flagger Force, I am empowered to develop fair-chance hiring best practices, collaborate with policymakers, lobby for improved public programs and systems, and work with employees reentering the workforce after an absence or change. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and personal experiences at the event as well as collaborating with and learning from others who share my passion for fair-chance hiring.”

During the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Reimagining Futures: Second Chance Employment Forum, Shea will speak on a panel alongside Natalie Bartlett, director of security operations at Walmart, and Dan Letchinger, senior vice president at Flowers Foods & Subsidiaries. The speakers will discuss their companies’ motivations for adopting second chance hiring practices, the benefits of providing gainful employment opportunities to individuals with a criminal record, challenges and opportunities they have faced, and much more. The panel discussion will be moderated by Luke Bernstein, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

As Flagger Force’s workforce relations and public affairs manager, Shea is responsible for building strategic partnerships, overseeing government relations across the company’s expanding footprint, and helping grow and diversify Flagger Force’s frontline workforce. She plays an instrumental role in supporting the company’s fair-chance hiring efforts, which focus on considering candidates of all experience levels and backgrounds who want to work, including individuals with a criminal history and those reentering the workforce after incarceration. Shea also advocates for criminal legal system reform to help bring more people with criminal records into the workforce. In 2023, Shea was appointed to the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board by Governor Josh Shapiro and Chairs the Barrier Remediation Committee.

“Shea has played a critical role in driving forward Flagger Force’s fair-chance employment program. Her passion for creating meaningful change in the lives of our employees and the nation’s workforce as a whole is evident through her efforts to advocate for criminal legal system reform, partner with nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups focused on removing barriers to employment, and be a proactive voice on the topic. Flagger Force is proud to recognize Shea’s dedication to sharing her experiences and collaborating across industries to create positive change and we eagerly await her participation in the Reimagining Futures: Second Chance Employment Forum,” said Mike Doner, president and CEO of Flagger Force.
