Flagger Force: Hi Brittani, congratulations on winning the employee spotlight and thanks for joining us today! When did you start working with Flagger Force?

Brittani Priester: I started in July of 2021.

Flagger Force: What were you doing before Flagger Force?

Brittani: I had just graduated from York College of Pennsylvania. This is my first job after finishing my degree.

Flagger Force: That’s great! What brought you here?

Brittani: Initially, I had plans to move to Tennessee near some family that lives there and get a job as a mortgage loan officer with a company where I had interned. The more I thought about it, I realized a job that is 100% commission-based, might not be what I wanted to do after all.

Flagger Force: What happened next? Did something about Flagger Force catch your eye?

Brittani: It was a connection of mine from college, Julia, who works at Flagger Force, and told me about the job. Julia and I knew each other from our time together in an honors fraternity. We were part of a small handful of women majoring in finance. She graduated before me, and I’ve seen her get promoted and do very well here. It was the growth factor that caught my eye.

Flagger Force: Yes, Flagger Force offers many opportunities. Do you remember your first week? How did it go?

Brittani: It was calm—at first. Then I got thrown into a meeting about one of our clients and how we had a problem to solve regarding their receivables and I would be the one billing them. It was a big challenge, especially for my first job out of college.

Flagger Force: What was so challenging about the experience?

Brittani: I didn’t know what I didn’t know about the work. I had never done anything like this before and didn’t have a sense of what I was getting into. I saw the receivable balance, and it was big. I knew that it was going to be a lot of hard work and be time-consuming.

Flagger Force: How long did it take you to feel like you have the knowledge to understand what to do in your job and feel comfortable asking the client for the money owed?

Brittani: I had a great mentor who taught me everything I know. He prepared me for dealing with any type of situation I may run into when billing clients. I started feeling confident a couple of months ago. That’s when I started using my personality to my advantage. I’ve built good relationships with my clients and literally talk to them every day.

Flagger Force: It’s great that you’re using your friendly and bubbly personality to build good relationships with clients! What’s your favorite part of the job?

Brittani: My favorite thing about this job is that it’s challenging. If it was simple, then I would be bored. I like that my job is different every day.

Flagger Force: You said you talk with clients every day. Do you ever talk with our field employees?

Brittani: Most of the time I’m communicating with other office teams, more than I talk with field employees, but my job is connected to their work.

Flagger Force: What would you like the field employees to know about your job?

Brittani: I would like them to know that the little things matter. We often receive timesheets that don’t have the right work order numbers. Paying attention and giving yourself an extra two minutes to ensure accuracy would go a long way. It’s also important to be accurate putting in time. Even if it’s just an extra half hour, clients say, “We’re not paying this,” and then we must verify everything, which creates more work. But I’m super thankful for our field employees. Kudos to you for being out on the road every day!

Flagger Force: You’re right, the little things matter. For the clients you work with, how many invoices are you processing a week?

Brittani: Over 300 invoices per week, and that’s just the invoicing!

Flagger Force: What are unexpected new skills you’ve learned since working for Flagger Force?

Brittani: Time management is a skill I unexpectedly gained more experience with, while working here. That, and communication. I didn’t realize how important communication was until I started here. Whether working with different departments or the client, communication is the most important job skill.

Flagger Force: What’s something you’re passionate about?

Brittani: I’m most passionate about helping others. I get to do that here, so that’s cool.

Flagger Force: How kind of you! What’s one thing you’d like to share with motorists?

Brittani: Be patient. You might get upset when you see a work zone, but our employees are helping improve our communities infrastructure and just trying to help you get through safely, so please be patient.

Flagger Force: Why this job? What keeps you here?

Brittani: Like I said before, it’s challenging every day, and I like that. Also, the people—I’m definitely a people person and I like the people who work with me. This job means a great deal. It’s my first job out of college. I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.

Flagger Force: We’re glad you’re here! Who do you admire most?

Brittani: My parents. They’ve worked hard from a young age to be able to live the life they live now and provide for me and my brothers and sisters. They instilled my work ethic.
